HUD Unveils New Research Quarterly

by devteam February 19th, 2011 | Share

ThernDepartment of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has premiered a quarterly publication</bthat will highlight policy-relevant research for policy makers, advocates, andrnhousing industry members.  Each issue of EvidencernMatters will focus on a key theme that will highlight what HUD SecretaryrnShaun Donovan called the Department’s renewed focus on research, data, andrnevidence-based policymaking.</p

The firstrnissue of Evidence Matters spotlights neighborhood revitalization which Donovanrncalled an ideal topic for launching the publication “because its goalsrnintersect directly with HUD’s mission to create strong, sustainable, inclusiverncommunities and quality, affordable homes for all.”   The issue, which can be downloaded in PDFrnformat or ordered as a hard copy, features a lead article on Hope IV, a programrnwhich combines the demolition or physical rehabilitation of severely distressedrnpublic housing projects with services aimed at improving the life of itsrnresidents.  Other articles in the issue arernconcerned with understanding the effects on a neighborhood of concentratedrnpoverty and building community capacity.</p

In announcing the publication Donovan said, “We live inrnan age in which technology has made information more accessible than at anyrntime in our history. Our charge is to turn that information into knowledge, andrnthat knowledge into change. By demonstrating HUD’s commitment to evidence basedrnpolicymaking and providing a space for diverse viewpoints at this challengingrnbut exciting moment in housing and community development, I’m confident that Evidence Matters will help us do justrnthat.”</p
