Standard & Poor has compiled a spotlight report focusing on the performance of mortgage servicers. The report looks at a number servicing categories including loan modifications, escrow administration, and staff turnover and training for companies of all sizes managing prime and subprime portfolios.

Producer Price Inflation Declines in July

Producer prices were sharply declined in July, in contrast to last week’s consumer inflation report, which indicated prices were flat in the month. Total PPI fell 0.9% in the month, triple what the market was expecting, as food prices fell 1.5% in the month and the energy index sunk 2.4%. In June, food prices had advanced 1.1% while energy prices surged 6.6%. No one is calling it a deflationary spiral as the fluctuations are confined to energy and food, which have pushed producer prices down 6.4% since last year.rn

Housing Starts Fall in July…June and May Revised Lower

A downturn in housing starts and building permits wasn’t what markets were expecting, but given how well the index had performed in the prior two months, the general trend continues to look positive.rnrnPrivately-owned housing starts fell 1% to an annual pace of 581,000 in July, against expectations that they would advance 2.3% to 598k. Data from the prior two months was revised downwards slightly.
